ACTS 2
ACTS 2 is the name for Asbury´s Contemporary Worship Service held Saturday evenings at 6:30 pm and Sunday mornings at 11:00 am in the West Sanctuary. Services feature live contemporary Christian music, weekly communion, biblical preaching, fun, and fellowship.
Mission: The Acts 2 mission is "For all to passionately embrace the living God through worship and small groups." The name Acts 2 comes from the book of Acts, and describes the worship experience from the early church in chapter 2, verse 42: "They devoted themselves to the apostles´ teaching and fellowship, to the breaking of bread and the prayers." (Acts 2:42 NRSV)
Music and Worship Style: The worship team reaches out to all people who prefer a more informal, contemporary worship experience. The structure of the service is rooted in simplicity--we worship, we pray, we receive a message, we receive communion. The atmosphere is light and fun, yet clearly intentional about deepening our relationship with the living God. All are welcome just as they are.
Children´s Church: We provide a Children´s Church on Saturday Nights and Sunday Mornings where kids thru 3rd Grade can have fun as they learn about worship. Kids share in the opening worship of Acts 2 with their families and have the opportunity to go to Children's Church during the sermon. They come back at the end of the service for communion and singing. A Bible-based curriculum with a DVD is used. We are always looking for more parents to assist our Children's Church. A nursery for infants is provided on Saturday Night and Sunday mornings.
Kindness Dinners: On the third Saturday each month the Acts 2 worship team and Asbury volunteers provide a free, open-to-all "Kindness Dinner" to the Acts 2 participants. Kindness Dinners are at 5:15 pm followed by the worship service. On the first Saturday of each month, the worship team offers an "Ice Cream Night" following the service for people to get to know one another.
Acts 2 Small Groups
Small groups are an opportunity to hang out with friends in an informal, relaxing atmosphere as you seek to deepen your faith. We offer a variety of small groups to fit your schedule and interests. The four basic components of all small groups are:
- Friendship and Fellowship (a time to relax with coffee or tea, to know others and to be known)
- Scripture (applying God's truth to our daily lives)
- Service (giving of your time and talents to help others in the church and community)
- Prayer (sharing and praying over each other's joys and concerns)
