The cafe requires about 500 gallons of processed fruit - picked, prepared, frozen - prior to the opening of the fair. Nearly all of this fruit comes from donations by church members, friends, neighbors, and even total strangers. We solicit donations of fruit. We have a network of experienced pickers, processors, cherry pitters, apple peelers, and freezer space, though we prefer prepared fruit as the preparation easily overloads our resources . If you would like to help with donations of fruit please contact one of our fruit coordinators.
We serve about 2400 pies at the fair in 17 days - everyone homemade! Most pies are made by individuals at home on scheduled days of the fair. A large number are made at "pie parties" by groups who work together for an afternoon or evening often producing a hundred or more pies.
Although we welcome pie party workers and accept donations of pies, health regulations, scheduling demands, and quality considerations require strict production control. We're sorry but we cannot accept drop-in deliveries during the fair. Pie contributions must be arranged prior to the fair with one of our pie coordinators.
Many groups and individuals participate together to make the Asbury Cafe happen. From late spring through fall volunteers perform all of the operations of the cafe. If you would like to volunteer in any way contact please contact one or our chairpersons or schedule coordinators.
The Asbury Cafe requires a lot of goods and services some of which we unfortunately must purchase. If you would like to contribute or learn more about contributing to the Asbury Cafe in any way please contact any of our our chairpersons.
We would like to say thanks to everyone who donates time, energy, and supplies to the cafe and especially for the Friends of the Asbury Cafe.
