That's right! We can tell you what we have, but you'll have to stop by the Asbury Cafe to experience your own piece of real pie.
The Asbury Cafe serves 100-200 pies each day of the fair. We offer a wide variety to satisfy all tastes. Every pie is homemade by local churches, either by individual volunteers or by groups such as Sunday School classes, known as "pie parties". Most of the ingredients come from donations, but in some cases must be purchased.
For consistency, all pies for the Cafe are made in 9" pans and cut in 6 pieces each. Heath regulations require that all pies served at the Asbury Cafe have a top crust or be self-sealing, such as a pecan pie. Unfortunately, this prohibits some traditional favorites including Pumpkin and meringue pies. Some of the more common pies are described below.
We try very hard to provide a variety of pies every day of the fair, but our pies depend on availability of fruit, volunteer pie bakers, and many other factors. We can't guarantee that your favorite kind will always be in stock and hope you understand and try us again. Thanks.
Apple Pie reigns king, but just about any fruit you desire will make a tasty favorite. Popular around cafe circles are the mixed fruit variations that match two fruits like Strawberry-Rhubarb to accent the individual flavors. You can't go wrong with these choices. For the restricted diet, try the sugar-free, naturally sweet variations.
Fruit pies can be made ahead of time and frozen (before cooking) for use at a later date. Cook directly from oven without thawing. Expect 20-30 minutes longer cooking time and reduce temperature 25-50 degrees after an hour to prevent burning the crust.
Our most common fruit, mixed-fruit, and sugar free pies include ...
| Apple | Apricot | Blackberry | Blueberry |
| Cherry | Nectarine | Peach | Pineapple |

These pies only think they are pies, but in fact they closely resemble cookies with a crust. A piece of the Brownie, Chocolate Chip, Oatmeal, and Oatmeal Chocolate Chip pies will remind you of your favorite cookies of the same names.
Remember Grandma's filled raisin cookies. Then you will enjoy a piece of Sour Cream Raisin pie. This delicious pie contains a rich cooked raisin filling very similar to those plump moist, filled-cookies. This pie gives you more calories for your nickel !
The Shoo-Fly pie is a popular Pennsylvania Dutch recipe. This pie has a heavy cake-like texture with a sweet crumb topping and a rich molasses syrup base. Many people enjoy it warm with a glass of milk.

| Brownie | Chocolate Chip | Oatmeal |

The Pecan pie stands as a traditional favorite. This pie contains a sweet syrup and pecan mixture. As it cooks, the pecans rise to the surface and the syrup hardens creating a self-sealing top crust. Several variations exist like the Chocolate Pecan, which adds chocolate chips, and the Raisin Pecan. Other "mock" versions include a the Spicy Walnut Raisin, as well as the Pinto Pie, which substitutes Pinto beans for the Pecans-who would guess.
