UMW Purpose
The organized unit of United Methodist Women shall be a community of women whose PURPOSE is to know God and to experience freedom as whole persons through Jesus Christ; to develop a creative, supportive fellowship; and to expand concepts of mission through participation in the global ministries of the church.
Asbury UMW Meetings
Asbury United Methodist Women have unit meetings and small group meetings called circles once every month for fellowship and spiritual growth. The Unit meetings vary according to month: Jan, March, May, August, October and December meetings are on the first Sunday in the afternoon from 12:30 – 2:30 PM. February, April, June, September and November meetings are held on the third Thursday from 9-11 AM.
We have 4 circles: Elizabeth, Naomi, Deborah, and Hannah. Hannah meets on the third Tuesday of the month in the evening and the others meet on either the Third Tuesday or Third Thursday of the month in the morning. All circles meet in members´ homes.
You do NOT have to be a United Methodist OR meet an age requirement to be a member. ANY woman who is committed to the Purpose of the UMW and is ready to engage in mission, study, personal growth and social action can join!

UMW Reading Program
Reading Program: The Purpose of the UMW Reading Program is to encourage people to:
- Expand understanding of and participation in God’s mission.
- Increase sensitivity to all human beings – their needs, interests and concerns.
- Encourage critical thinking about issues facing humanity today.
- Grow in understanding of Scripture as it relates to Christian faith in contemporary life.
- Enhance self-knowledge and to act from that knowledge.
- strengthen involvement in local and global Christian mission.
Any person who wants to participate in the Reading Program should follow one of the plans below. When the required number of books and magazines have been read, readers are to report their reading to their local-unit secretary of program resources, Kathy Salazar.
Plan I
- 4 books each year, 1 from each category.
- Selections from the 2006-2010 reading lists if not included in previous reports (may include youth books).
- Regular reading of Response and New World Outlook magazines.
Plan II
- 10 books each year, 2 from each category.
- Regular reading of Response and New World Outlook magazines.
- Selections from the 2006-2010 reading lists if not included in previous reports (may include youth books).
Plan III
- 15 books each year, 8 books with at least 2 from each category.
- 7 additional books from ANY category.
- Selections from the 2006-2010 reading lists if not included in previous reports (may include youth books and children’s books).
- Regular reading of Response and New World Outlook magazines.
Plan IV
- 20 books each year, 8 books with at least 2 from each category.
- 12 additional books from ANY category.
- Selections from the 2006-2010 reading lists if not included in previous reports (may include youth books and children’s books).
- Regular reading of Response and New World Outlook magazines.
Most books can be found in Asbury’s library on the cart labeled UMW Reading Program. Many can also be found at the Albuquerque Public Library. Categories include: Education for Mission, Nurturing for Community, Social Action, and Spiritual Growth. Large Print books are also available.
